Pagès, Verveine du Velay, Yellow Herbal Liqueur, France (40%, 70cl)

Verveine du Velay Yellow from Pagès is a softer and more rounded interpretation of the house’s historic herbal liqueur, produced in Le Puy en Velay since 1859. Built around lemon verbena and a selection of alpine botanicals, it is bottled at 40 percent and designed for balance rather than intensity.

The aromatic profile opens with sweet verbena, honeyed citrus and gentle floral tones. On the palate it shows candied lemon peel, light vanilla and soft herbal spice with a smooth, rounded texture. On a sweetness scale it sits balanced sweet leaning herbal, with very little bitterness.

It is often compared to Yellow Chartreuse, and while both share French herbal heritage and a warmer profile than their green counterparts, the styles differ. Yellow Chartreuse tends toward deeper spice, saffron warmth and a richer honeyed density. Verveine du Velay Yellow is lighter and more defined by fresh verbena and citrus, with less spice weight and a cleaner finish.

Served slightly cool, it works well as a digestif. In cocktails, it offers gentle herbal lift without the heavier sweetness and spice of Yellow Chartreuse.
