Nikka Whisky Miyagikyo. Single Malt, Aromatic Yeast, 2022, Japan (47%, 70cl)

This rare version of Miyagikyo single malt is part of the "Nikka Discovery" series: an inside look at the various experiments made during the whiskey making process at Nikka. Focusing on the use of yeast, this enhances the expression of fruity aromas and flavors of peach and apricot. The Nikka Discovery series is a series of limited editions. The two limited edition versions in 2022 are Miyagikyo and Yoichi Aromatic Yeast, which highlight the diversity of the yeast used and the style of both distilleries. Both are not chill-filtered to maximize the distinctiveness and taste!

Colour: Light gold.
Aroma: Refined, warm. The very bubbly first nose (lavender, marshmallow) also shows some licorice and lush malted barley. Allow it to breathe and you will experience floral aromas and juicy fruits (peach, pear, apricot). Gradually notes of vanilla, coconut milk and lemon meringue pie emerge.
Taste: Brilliant, well-balanced. The full-bodied spirit is refreshingly herbal at first (barley, fern). Very delicate and pleasantly rich (fresh brioche, baguette). Next, white peaches and pears release their delicious tart juices to the taste buds, while acacia honey spreads voluptuously around the sides of the palate.
