When Giulio Cocchi first blended Piedmontese Barolo wine with artemisia’s herbal bite in 1891, he created a new category of vermouth – one where bitter meets voluptuous. This contemporary interpretation stays true to his vision, enriching the base with double-infused cinchona bark, hand-cut rhubarb root, and quassia wood’s clean bitterness. The masterstroke comes from a Barolo Chinato addition, lending garnet hues and whispers of spiced vanilla that elevate it beyond ordinary amari.

The aroma is an autumn walk through Langhe vineyards  fermented black cherries, dried rose petals, and aged oak barrels mingling with artemisia’s alpine freshness. On the palate, sour cherry compote sweetness dances with quinine’s tonic sharpness, while the Barolo’s tannic grip provides structure. The finish lingers with angelica root’s earthiness and a touch of burnt orange – a signature Cocchi flourish.

In Turin’s historic cafés, they serve it over ice with a twist, allowing the wine-born complexity to unfold slowly. Modern bartenders prize it for Negronis with depth, where it bridges gin and Campari with Piedmontese elegance. For an après-ski revelation, try it with hot apple cider – the spices harmonizing beautifully.
