Box Second Step Collection 01, Swedish Whisky (51.1%, 50cl)

Box Second Step 01 is a Swedish single malt whisky from the northern distillery, High Coast. This Second Step edition is one of the distillery's smokier releases, made with malt smoked to a ppm of 40-45 using Scottish peat. 98% of the whisky is aged for a minimum of 4 years in 130-liter bourbon casks, with the remaining 2% coming from 100-liter casks made of specially roasted American oak. The whisky has not been artificially colored or chill-filtered.

Color: Golden.

Aroma: Smoky notes mingled with hints of ripe pineapple and leather.

Taste: Notes of vanilla, licorice, and dark chocolate. Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed neat.

About the producer:

The High Coast Distillery is situated in an old sawmill by the Ångerman River in Ådalen, northern Sweden. Producing 100,000 liters of pure alcohol annually, their ultimate goal is to create the world's finest single malt whisky. As such, great emphasis is placed on both ingredients and intricacies in the production process: pilsner malt from Halmstad, Sweden, imported peated malt from Scotland, water from the local river, and an unusually extended fermentation period all contribute to the rich flavor. Being one of the northernmost distilleries in the world, the dramatic temperature fluctuations in their non-temperature controlled warehouses have a significant impact on the whisky's interaction with the oak casks. The distillery utilizes two types of casks - first-fill American white oak bourbon casks and Spanish oloroso sherry casks. Some are also transformed into a traditional, Swedish cask known as "ankare" that hold just under 40 liters. These are often used for private bottlings.
