Since 1865, Bonal Gentiane-Quina has held its place as one of France’s great aperitifs, earning the nickname ouvre l’appétit—“the key to the appetite.” Initially enjoyed for its ability to stimulate the palate, it later became a favourite among sportsmen and an early sponsor of the Tour de France, cementing its cultural status.

Crafted in the traditional manner, Bonal is made by infusing gentian, cinchona (quinine), and select herbs from the Grande Chartreuse mountains into a mistelle base—a blend of grape must and neutral spirit. The result is a spicy, earthy, and complex aperitif with an aromatic depth that bridges bitterness and sweetness, making it as compelling neat as it is in classic cocktails.
