Black Tot, Master Blender's Reserve Rum, Ltd Edition 2024, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad (54.5%, 70cl)
31st of July 1970, also known as Black Tot Day, was the last day the Royal British Navy issued a daily rum ration to their sailors. This blend celebrates that tradition.
Each year, Master Blender Oliver Chilton crafts a new edition of Black Tot Master Blender's Reserve. The 2024 version focuses on the fruity side of navy rum: Barbados! This year, components from Barbados make up a whopping 60% of the rum, including a 22-year-old rum from Mount Gay! There is also a good amount of Trinidad, a bit of Jamaica, and a touch of Guyana. Some highlights include a 26-year-old Caroni, a 25-year-old Clarendon, and a dab of 28-year-old New Yarmouth! Holy smokes! As tradition dictates, there is also a splash of last year's Master Blender's Reserve (just under 4%) and a dash of the original Navy rum. This rum is not sweetened and not chill-filtered - and it's bottled at a delightful 54.5%.
Color: Deep amber.
Aroma: A scent bursting with tropical flavors: grilled pineapple, mint, strawberry, lime, chili, and coconut.
Taste: Generous, buttery rum that slowly coats the tongue with notes of manuka honey, banana, vanilla beans, and mango. The finish has hints of licorice and dark chocolate.
