Domaine Du Valbrun Eric & Léo Charruau
Appellation: Saumur-Champigny
This elegant organic red wine comes from the heart of the Saumur Champigny AOC, specifically from the commune of Parnay, where 35–40-year-old Cabernet Franc vines grow on gentle, southwest-facing slopes overlooking the Loire River. The vineyards rest on a complex terroir of clay-limestone soils with a turonian chalk subsoil, lending the wine both structure and finesse.
The grapes are farmed using certified organic practices. Every other row is naturally grass-covered to promote biodiversity, and the soil is carefully worked at the surface level to ensure healthy vine growth. The vines are Guyot-pruned, and soil management is adapted to the conditions of each vintage.
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25–27°C, following full destemming and gentle maceration for about 15 days. The wine then rests for eight months in steel, preserving its vibrant fruit character.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color, with a delicate yet expressive nose of blackcurrant, raspberry, and a touch of green pepper. The palate is silky and structured, offering a lively freshness, soft tannins, and a subtle roasted note on the finish. A beautiful example of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc—pure, honest, and full of charm.
