Malditos Traidores Destilado De Agave Azul is a small batch agave spirit produced in Palmar Segundo, Mexquitic de Carmona, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Crafted by master distiller Manuel Navarro, this expression utilizes 100% Blue Weber agave (Agave tequilana) grown outside the traditional Tequila denomination, allowing the producer to focus on regional artisanal techniques and specific terroir.
The production process relies on traditional methods executed in small micro batches, with this specific November 2024 bottling yielding just 120 liters. The mature agave piñas are cooked in a traditional brick oven to hydrolyze the complex starches into fermentable sugars. Following cooking, the agaves are ground using a classic stone tahona mill to extract the juice and preserves. Natural fermentation occurs spontaneously in open vats, enriched with regional pulque made from Agave mapisaga. The fermented liquid undergoes two distillations in a traditional copper alembic still before being brought to a bottling strength of 48.7% ABV without chill filtration, coloring, or synthetic additives.
The profile is vibrant, clean, and deeply expressive of cooked agave, balancing bright citrus with rich herbal and earthy undertones. The nose opens with aromas of roasted pineapple, fresh lime peel, white pepper, and green grass, complemented by subtle hints of wet stone and baking spices. On the palate, a smooth and oily mouthfeel delivers rich flavors of sweet cooked agave, honeyed citrus, vanilla cream, and a light mineral salinity. The finish is long, warm, and clean, leaving lingering notes of white pepper, herbal brine, and delicate wood smoke.
