Black Tot Blended Caribbean Rum is a premium, unadulterated multi-island blend created by Elixir Distillers in London, England. The brand draws its concept from British naval heritage, named in tribute to July 31, 1970, when the Royal Navy officially ended the centuries-old tradition of issuing a daily rum ration to sailors.
The production relies on a highly transparent recipe combining component parts from three separate nations, utilizing a mix of pot and column distillates. The blend is composed of 40% Guyanese rum aged three to five years, 20% unaged Guyanese rum, 35% five-year-old Barbadian rum, and a targeted 5% of three-year-old high-ester Jamaican pot still rum. All barrel aging takes place entirely within the tropical climates of the respective origins using two-hundred-liter American white oak ex-bourbon casks. To preserve the full aromatic spectrum of the oils, the liquid is bottled without chill-filtration or any added sugar and colorings at a robust strength of 46.2% ABV in a 70cl format.
The profile is rich, complex, and full-bodied, striking a balance between the weight of Demerara wood and the lively top notes of tropical fermentation. The nose is immediate and deeply inviting, opening with thick aromas of dark molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla fudge, layered with banana fritters, overripe mango, and a light touch of eucalyptus. On the palate, the liquid is heavy and texturing, delivering initial flavors of butter toffee, milk chocolate, and roasted coffee bean. This sweetness is structured by waves of baked apples, black peppercorn, and warm baking spices like cinnamon and clove. The finish is long and satisfyingly dry, leaving behind notes of charred oak, roasted banana, and a gentle tingle of aniseed.
