Arbikie Nàdar Vodka is a climate-positive spirit produced at the Arbikie Distillery in Angus, located in the Highlands region of Scotland. It is recognized as the world’s first carbon-neutral vodka, developed through a partnership between the distillery and Abertay University. The production focuses on sustainable agricultural practices that result in a net-positive impact on the environment.
The spirit is distilled from a base of peas, rather than traditional grains or potatoes. Peas are nitrogen-fixing crops that do not require synthetic fertilizers, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the raw material. This innovative base creates a spirit that is both ecologically conscious and distinct in its chemical composition, avoiding the environmental costs associated with industrial cereal farming.
The profile is defined by a vibrant and slightly floral nose with scents of green grass and citrus. On the palate, it displays a smooth and creamy texture with notes of lemongrass, white pepper, and a subtle vegetal sweetness. The structure is clean and well integrated, leading into a crisp finish characterized by a gentle earthy mineral quality.
Nàdar is well regarded for its role in pioneering sustainable distillation within the Scotch spirits industry. It is part of Arbikie’s field-to-bottle philosophy, where every stage of production, from planting the crops to bottling the final liquid, takes place on their estate. The release is an essential representative of the intersection between modern environmental science and traditional craft distilling.
