Distilled in 2003 at Foursquare and bottled in December 2017, Destino is part of the early Velier and Richard Seale collaboration that helped redefine modern Barbados rum. Only 2,610 bottles were produced.
The rum matured entirely in Barbados for 14 years, first spending 12 years in ex Madeira casks before a final 2 years in ex bourbon. The sequence matters. The Madeira brings depth and structure, darker fruit and a subtle tannic edge. The bourbon casks tighten and clarify the profile, adding oak precision rather than sweetness.
As a single blended rum, it combines pot and column distillates from Foursquare, assembled without additives and bottled at a natural 61 percent. The style is dry, structured and composed.
On the nose there is dried red fruit, cocoa and toasted coconut. The palate carries weight and concentration without heaviness. Dark fruit, oak, baking spice and a firm mineral backbone lead into a long, dry finish.
Destino sits in that earlier chapter of the Velier Foursquare story, before the market fully understood what tropical ageing could do in Barbados. Today it is less often opened and more often held.
